    I'M SORRY 2

    CASE NO. 5

    Geez....

I didn't know that I would have CASE NO. 5 of my I'M SORRY blog in just 2 weeks! Presenting...Alec Baldwin's statement at the David Letterman Show that he's thinking of "getting a Filipina mail-order bride." Of course, you can expect how the joke was taken.

According to the news, three members of the Philippine Senate demanded an apology, stressing that the mail-order bride business was outlawed. Manila's consul general to New York, Cecilia Rebon, was also asked to send a letter to the producers of the Letterman show and to Baldwin "to express deep concern over the derogatory remark.

Yahoo Philippines reported that: "Baldwin's interview has been widely circulated on the video sharing site YouTube, angering the huge Filipino diaspora."

    Hmmm....

To validate that "angering the huge Filipino diaspora" thing I logged on to You Tube and here are some of the comments that I've gathered.

"to every filipino and a few news casters feeling offended by ale's joke..get freaking grip!! its a joke..remember when SNL made fun of the President of Iran? you dont hear them complaining and their the ones with the Nuclear Missile!! sheesh.. dont get me wrong im filipino and i found it funny..even more when people over here started complaining..LOL!!"

    JENNYXXYNNEJ

"we shouldn't get offended by this so called "joke." It very true. NAGLIPANA NA NGA INTERNET CAFE DITO PINAS AND MARAMI PINAY GUSTO MAKAPAG-ASAWA NG FORIEGNER (Many Filipinas flock to internet cafes because they want to marry a foreigner.) Sa totoo lang ha pagmaynakita kayo pinay nakapag asawa ng foriegner di ba mostly sa kanila dala buong baryo kumakain sa labas (In truth, if you see a Filipina who is married to a foreigner isn't it that most of them bring along the entire village when they eat out?) ..hahahay..magpakatototoo na tayo ..pasalamat na lang tayo kasi preference pa ni Alec Baldwin ang Pinay.Hahaha! tawanan na lang natin to! (Let's just laugh about this!) totoo naman eh!"

"yah. true. never heard Borat caused a stir in khaz. i get the joke to..... im pinoy. and i dont find anything racist about it. let us not get over sensitive.. what's more stupid is flooding this video with comments using "english carabao" makes us more degraded than what you guys think.. soryy.. mabuhay phillip nouver!!! Good luck."

    PASUKNGPASUK

"obviously election is getting around the corner thats why some politicians like actor bong revilla are making fuss out of it..how dare him he can't even control his own kids..his family sucks..there are bigger issue than this like corruption, poverty, national security etc..with the current state of the country, i'm sure a lot of filipina would love to be his wife..if that wasn't a joke."

    DAWWANG

"Reality check, Sa Pilipinas pag nagsasabi ka ng totoo, kinukulong ka at inaalis sa serbisyo! mabuhay ka Gen. LIm at sa iyong mga kasama! (Reality check, in the Philippines if you tell the truth you get jailed and you get fired. Hail to you Gen. Lim and your comrades!)

Kung ang politiko magsalita nakakatawa, ang comediante pag nagjoke, Tinetake it seriously..Simulan ang respeto sa iyong bakuran! (When politicians speak, it's funny. When a comedian cracks a joke, it's taken seriously. Start having respect in your own backyard!)

Hindi ba mas nakaka-offend,disrepectful ang mga ginagawa ng mga politician magsimula presidente hanggang sa pinakamababa sa buong sambayanan? (Aren't the actions of our politicians, from the president to the lowest public official, more offensive and disrespectful to the entire nation?)

Kasi kundi sana di na tayo naghihirap at wala ang mga ganitong klase ng stereotyping sa atin kung wala silang basehan. (If  it isn't like this, we  wouldn't be this poor. There wouldn't be this kind of stereotyping if they didn't have some basis.) Mismo ngang lupain natin nabebenta na sa mga foreigner kc tingin ng gobyerno dito tayo kikita. (Even our own lands are sold to foreigners because our government think that we will earn profit from this). Nagyon sino ang nagmamalinis. (Now, who's trying to be clean?)

Bat walang nasabi si revilla sa mas nakaka-offend ng comment ni Candy sa mga kababayang Igorot? dahil local lang ito? Magpakatotoo ka! (How come Senator Revilla wasn't able to say something about Candy Pangilinan's comment about our countrymen -  the IGOROTs? Just because it's local? Be real!)"

    EDWINMICHAELQUIBOLOY

"we can't blame him for that joke... that is what people outside the philippines think of filipinos because some of people here really do that... it's not a majority though but it is not uncommon either. it's not only here in the philippines but typically almost all asian women are thought of like that."

And the comments go on and on and on...

I read ANGER, but not in the way I expected. I'm so glad that a lot of Filipinos (and bloggers for that matter) are THINKERS these days. They don't just RANT and CUSS, COMPLAIN and WHINE. They react. But they think.

    ADD-ON

filipinos love to make fun of fellow filipinos

Comedianne Candy Pangilinan cracked a joke in Baguio City, to wit:

"TAO PO AKO, HINDI PO AKO IGOROT." (I AM HUMAN. I'M NOT AN IGOROT.)

Look at the irony. Using "PO", an add-on word to indicate respect, while spitting degradation.

This spurred the anger of the Igorots (tribes who live in the northern part of the Philippines). She was declared a persona non grata in Baguio City and was banned from holding any shows there. Her movies are likewsise banned. True, the Igorots may not be as advanced as the city-dwellers but does that make them

    LESS HUMAN

     or

    NOT HUMAN?

Is this something new? Are you f*cking kidding me? HELL NOT! Filipinos have constantly used the word IGOROT as an ALTERNATIVE adjective for IGNORANT.

    Not just the Igorots...

Filipinos are so fond of making fun of fellow Filipinos. They make fun of the accent of the people who come from the South. They depict them as housemaids in dramas. But I tell you, ask any Korean who live in Manila, they call HOUSEMAIDS as "ATE." In fact, ATE and HOUSEMAID are synonymous to them!

What a SPITTING REVENGE for the word "INDAY." Haha!

Filipinos find entertainment in making fun of others who don't come from Manila and its neighboring provinces. People in Manila make fun of people who come from the south ... those whose ELEMENTARY and HIGH SCHOOL teachers don't use TAGALOG in their lectures ... those who can slap you with Shakespearean essays in a drop of a hat ... those who rest in nice homes, who don't have to cross wooden bridges in slums and then sleep with oldies just to be able to slurp Java Chip Frapuccino and hang out with fellow social climbing bitches.

These people discriminate fellow Filipinos. And these are the same Filipinos who disturb my studies before in San Beda because they always flock to Mendiola, screaming and protesting with their entire family (wife, husband, kids and 3 toddlers) and (witnessed by my own naked eyes) feeding on the packed lunch distributed by the organizers. And so the toddlers are also voicing out their grievances? Wow! Now, that's what you call sincerity! Flooding to Mendiola for the packed lunch and not for their genuine cause.

These people who call the Southerners "baduy and unpolished" are those who supported BIG TIME a deposed PLUNDERER. These people voted for FPJ (a high school level presidential  candidate slash action star) on a landslide. These are the people whose CITIES and PROVINCES are HEADED by NON-DEGREE-HOLDER ATHLETE/ACTOR/ACTRESS MAYORS, VICE-MAYORS, COUNCILORS, VICE-GOVERNORS, GOVERNORS, CONGRESSMEN. Manny Pacquiao got knocked out in General Santos (his home province) because the people there didn't find him fit for the congressional seat. But I tell you, if Manny ran in the land of the so-called BETTER FILIPINOS, he'd surely get a hell of a knock-out WIN.

As far as I know ... the ancestors of these discriminating smarties were still hunting boars while my great great great great grandfather was already studying in college. Talking about the oldest city and the oldest school, you know. Well, you can Google that.

    Unpolished? Crude?

I challenge you to call the GOKONGWEIs, the LHUILLIERs and the ABOITIZs that name. And I forbid you from watching any of Manny Pacquiao's fight. He's not Filipino, you know. He's from the south.

    Uneducated?

I challenge you to say that to former Chief Justice Hilario Davide, Jr. and to the grave of former Chief Justice and Senate President Marcelo Briones Fernan.

And if you're really that smart, I challenge you to challenge me.

Other countries think of us like a STINKY HORSE SH*T  because even in our own backyard, we discriminate others and treat them like sh*t.

So now, we get offended when foreigners like Alec Baldwin crack a joke about us? For heaven's sake, give me a f***ng break!

    raining on your parade...

those who see southerners as second-class citizens are quite delusional...baho gihapon sila ug utot...when you come to think of it. hilas jud.

@mad_elle - They can all kiss my a**. I'm just curious...why do they start their sentence with "ACTUALLY" and then what?

Actually...kasi...Actually...ano...If you can't speak straight English, why mix it all up with the "pa-conyo" sh*t? That would only make you sound like a third-rate social climbing retard.

A professor of mine in Law School (now a collegiate court Justice) got so mad like a raging bull and almost threw my classmate out of the window when during recitation she started her answer with "ACTUALLY." WTF? What's with the motherF "actually?" So "THE BUZz - StarTALKish" answer.

WHEN DOES THE COURT ACQUIRE JURISDICTION?

    Umm...actually....

Huh? I still don't get it. No Carabao language please...

  • mad_elle

They're compensating, to make things sound more relevant than they really are. And it's been embedded for so long that it's good to sound "cono", making one be seen as having a higher status in this society, disregarding how their usage of inappropriate terms eventually makes them ridiculous...vanity in the wrong places. tsk tsk. Ambot unsay cure.

  • shangrila1

@mad_elle - Yadz, there is no cure for delusion. Perhaps, there is but it's very very hard. Almost impossible. You're a psychology grad so you know it's either you have Bipolar I or suffering from schizophrenia like Anneliese Michel (the real Emily Rose). In the latter case, maybe the last resort is exorcism. Haha!

But certainly, there is no cure for insecurity.

Calling somebody stupid doesn't make you any smarter. Calling somebody baduy doesn't turn you into an elite. Calling somebody ugly doesn't certainly make you look better.

However, if you're unsure, unstable and in a state of crisis to elevate yourself, you'd call somebody else names and blow your own trumpet. It's pathetic. And hopeless.

Hilas gyud ng mga TAGALOG.  During my 5+ years stay in Manila, naka-ingkwentro gyud kog mga hilas.  My co-workers make fun of my accent everytime I speak tagalog and treated me like an "IGOROT."  I did some research and found out that RACHEL COQUIA, the social climbing bitch, is the daughter of a barber.  She likes to play in casinos even if she has no money.  CRISTINA DE LOS REYES' mother is a maid-looking old lady who married a Yugoslavian guy and the fucking supervisor of our district, ERIC RICO, who used to let me make his coffee, serve him snacks during our sales conference and makes me spend my sales incentive to pay for the drinks after our district meetings, lives in a shanty in a squatter area in San Andres, Manila.....he has lots of kids too.  Bad leader.  Works like a thief.

Kinsay IGOROT namo ron?   Mu-bukal gyud akong dugo makanumdum anang mga TAGALOG!

  • shangrila1

@CHIP_punk - I KNOW THE STORY. Where are these people now? Tina got impregnated. Rachel's still struggling on how to pay her bills at Fitness First with her meager salary. Rico is still hopping from one company to another. At least you have your OWN company now and just worry about your dog, Snow. The "live-in-a-shanty-party-like-Paris" lifestyle is nothing new. I know lots of people here in Manila (especially women) who live a double life. The ironic thing is in law school, where everybody is a professional, nobody raises the accent issue. Nobody actually cares. I even had a classmate before who comes from Ifugao and NOBODY ever made a fuzz or joke about her roots (to think she's a real Igorot!) I guess, only the bad-bred and the ignorant care about one's roots. They care so much about it because they themselves have lots of holes to fill in their life and they're in a state of emergency ... and the only thing they know on how to elevate themselves is to make other people look low.

  • CHIP_punk

@shangrila1 - maayo kayo pagkasulti nimo langga. da. maoy angay nila.  A friend of mine, a doctor in Pasig City told me nga ang mga "WALA" gyud sa kinabuhi maoy kusog mamantay sa accent.
